The 60mm Bushing Press Tool is used to press out the old front lower control arm bushings in 80 Series Land Cruisers in order to press in new OEM or other poly/caster correction bushings from Slee Offroad or Old Man Emu. A serious press is in order, of course, and leaving the bushings in deep freeze overnight makes installation a snap. They will contract ever-so slightly and go in without a fuss. This tool is sized to work with the axle side lower control arms. The frame side bushing is a different size and this tool will not work for that application. This tool is 60mm wide and can be used in other sleeved and pressed bushing applications not associated with the Land Cruiser.
Fits:
• 80 Series- Front, lower control arm, axle side only
NOTE: An OEM bushing is out of round but as you measure multiple times around the O.D. you get 2.368-2.377”. This varies a little between bushings I am sure but the important thing is that the OEM bushing OD is about .014” larger than our tool diameter.
The 60mm is unique from the other press tool sizes because the pressing face is such a small area. The OD is 2.360” and the ID is 2.100” so this creates a face that is only .130” wide. If the tool gets crooked, or isn’t perfectly aligned on the bushing face, while pressing than this .130” face is getting deformed and mushroomed out. We don’t have a lot of clearance with this tool so any mushing of material to the O.D. is effectively increasing the outer diameter and therefore creating the stuck condition.
There isn’t much we can do except decrease the OD but then this makes the press face thinner and would make the problem more common. It can be a tricky tool to use but the user is causing the stuck condition because of subpar alignment during pressing. This happens to the best of us, even the designer of the tool ;)
