NOTE: WILL NOT work on the 80 Series Land Cruiser.
Anyone with an 100 Series Land Cruiser will, one day, eventually have to deal with the Floppy Mirror Syndrome (FMS). Now this is not to be mistake with Shaky Mirror Syndrome (SMS). FMS needs something a little more that what modern medicine can offer, it requires surgery. In this case you *could* just pound a 16d nail into it and call it a day. For those of use that don't solve our problems with nail, there is a more refined solution. If you have an 80 Series with the same problem you can use the 80 Series Floppy Mirror Fix.
This link is still accurate to get the mirror off and disassembled: Installation instructions
The only addition for the 100Series is an extra 1/8" washer is included. This washer is ONLY used for compressing the spring to the correct height before drilling.
The 100 series mirror post has a large chamfer on the top of it. If the user installed the ring flush to the top of the post then the holes for the ring screws would be going through this chamfer and therefore have a thin section of material above the ring screws. This is where the stress is concentrated so this scenario isn’t ideal. The washer, which is about an 1/8” thick, is getting the ring further down the post which gets the ring screws in an area with more material and makes it a stronger setup. It also gets it to a location that mimics the factory location so the preload on the spring is about the same. Anything, that creates the 1/8” offset will work so a washer is supplied.
